About Sherman Alexie

Sherman Alexie Jr. was born in 1966, a member of the Couer d'Alene Indian Tribe. He was raised on the Spokane Indian Reservation approximately 50 miles northwest of Spokane, Washington. Alexie went to high school off of the reservation at Reardan High. He then headed to Gonzaga State University before transferring to Washington State University. He graduated from WSU with a BA in American Studies. At the age of 23, two of his poetry collections were published, beginning his career as a poet, short-story writer, novelist, stand-up comedian, and screenplay writer. Sherman Alexie has published 19 books. In April 2007 Flight was released, his first novel in ten years. In September 2007 The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian was published.  (from the Official Sherman Alexie Biography)
